the 34th Language Culture Week

From March 9 – 13, our school community celebrated the 34th Language Culture Week. The preschoolers together with the students from grades 1 – 8 took part in many different linguistic activities.

The aim of the event was to promote correct language use as well as to develop linguistic awareness.

In the kindergarten, there was the Day of Sounds. Here, our young kids tried to guess sounds from nature and, in this way, to develop their listening skills. On the Day of Magical Words, they had an opportunity to learn about polite language and to practise correct pronunciation using fun tongue twisters.

In grades 1-4, the students joined many interesting activities. They made spelling colourful pages and then decorated the school corridors. The posters were very popular with our younger students.

There was also a fun punctuation dictation in the common room.

Our older students took part in some other competitions. In the Calligraphy Competition, they presented their careful handwriting. In the  Master of Correct Polish Contest, on the other hand, they practised using correct language forms.

Save Commas! action was very popular among the students because through some posters it showed how commas can really change the meaning of sentences.

Another interesting activity was this related to archaisms (very old - fashioned words), where the students chose some odd words such as huncwot, rajcować and fircyk.

The school librarians organized an art competition. It was called Polish Nobel Prize Winners. Here, our talented teenagers created artworks inspired by famous Polish laureates.

The school event ended with a lecture by dr Agnieszka Rosińska – Mamej, a linguist from Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, during which, she talked about contemporary spelling.

The 34 Language Culture Week in our school was full of challenging activities, fun and, of course, educational value!

We would like to thank our great Polish teachers for their involvement. Great job!
